St Bernard’s Catholic Grammar School

The Client

St Bernard’s School is a Roman Catholic Grammar School on Langley Road in Slough, Berkshire.  The school was previously designated as a Humanities College and is steeped in history dating back to 1860.

The Challenge

Before IMS were awarded the contract in 2018, the school had carried out their cleaning provision inhouse using legacy contracts.  In the early meeting stages with the School Business Manager and listening to the issues with the current provision, it was clear that is model was no longer working with quite a few issues such as recruitment and accountability and management of staff.  Health & Safety at the site along with regular quality checks were also minimal at the site.  As a result of these issues, it was difficult to reach the desired level of service at the school.

Our Solution

The initial set up was by led by IMS Project Manager, Shabbir who studied the Operation carefully, working closely with the School Business Manager and agreeing what changes should be made to better the provision.   We transferred existing staff into our Businesses whilst also recruiting new staff.   Shift patterns were changed and new tasks were allocated to existing and the newly recruited staff to improve the level of service.  There was also the benefit introducing a Working Supervisor on site who would be proactive in overseeing the day to day running of the provision and providing support to the team.

Following the setup, accountability was then passed to IMS Account Manager, Monika Jonderko.  Monika is responsible for supporting the daily cleaning staff and school by liaising closely with staff and the School Business Manager.  An eco-friendly dosage system product was introduced which reduces our impact on the environment by using less chemicals and slashing plastic waste.  The introduction of short training videos which are sent to all our staff, is an added value for our staff and client, as it provides continuous training and development to our staff on all aspects related to the Cleaning Industry.  Comprehensive Health & Safety, Risk Assessments and COSH information are regularly monitored and updated, which gives the school peace of mind that staff are also fully comprehensive in all aspects related to Health and Safety.

From the offset, we have built a strong relationship with the school and the School Business Manager which remains to be the situation to the present day.  We have maintained a settled proactive team of cleaners who endeavor to deliver a high-quality service, led by the Working Supervisor on site and our Operations Management team.  The school are pleased with our open lines of communication, and our expertise and capabilities of cleaning to a such a high-level standard.  Further to a recent quarterly meeting with the School Business Manager fantastic feedback as always was provided, and on this occasion, it was concerning one of our brilliant cleaners at the site. Please see comments below:

“Following our meeting yesterday, I wanted to write to you to say how excellent Parveen is and she has been a real asset to the cleaning at the school. Nothing is too much trouble and she is always happy to help us out. If we ask her to do something a bit different for a special occasion, it is always done to an exceptionally high standard. We never notice when any of the cleaning staff are off, because it all seems to be covered seamlessly. Even when she was off, she had made sure that everything was covered and had briefed her stand into a high level so that there were no problems”.

Our turnaround of the cleaning provision again proves our success when taking on new contracts as we are highly experienced, and we really are good at what we do.  We would encourage potential customers to speak to our clients, who will confirm that we do deliver on our promises providing a high standard of cleaning to match the needs of each individual client.

We endeavour to continue to retain the strong relationship we have built with our clients as we constantly review processes, listening to their needs and engaging with their ideas in order to maintain and improve upon the rigorous practices, that are at the very heart of our service.
